Establish your foundation

Posted on by ums

Personal development guru, Robert Collier, said “Your chances of success in any undertaking can always be measured by your belief in yourself.”

Easier said than done, right?

For many of us, overcoming self-doubt and building self confidence can be our biggest challenge. Self-esteem is not something we are born with. It is built over time, very much like a building contractor working on a project.

Your self-esteem is your foundation. It is the bi-product of positive and negative experiences throughout your life. It isn’t easy to “undo” the parts of your self-image that might have been damaged by negative experiences; however, it is our choice to let go of our past and move forward – We don’t walk backwards into the future.

Here are ways to build your self-esteem and lay your foundation for a prosperous life:

Refuse to let others fill your mind with negativity

If you have people in your life who tear you down, it’s time to meet new people. Change is hard, but it is needed in certain situations. Don’t leave things the way they are, do something about it. As Jim Rohn said, “If you change, things will change.”

Dont speak negatively about yourself

We are advised not to accept negativity from others, so why accept it from ourselves? Subconsciously our mind accepts everything we say as “true” so fill it with positive things.

Look for the positive in every situation

We can’t control what we are dealt in life, but we can control how we respond to it.

Don’t lower someone else’s self-worth

Just as we are guarding our own self- image from negativity, make sure we are not responsible for depriving others of their value.

Carry yourself with respect

If you want self-respect you have to earn it. To do this, you have to be aware of how you speak, dress and the way you carry yourself. People will treat you how you want to be treated.

Power of association

By virtue of association, one can raise their self-worth. Do you spend time with successful people? The people you associate yourself with, tells others a lot about you.  The website organizations “Unique Mindset” you associate yourself with, also speaks tons about you.

Be truthful and kind

This trait has an enormous impact on your self-image. An individual who is honest and kind is always highly respected.
